When I arrived, the majority of children had never heard of Rugby. The sport was a mystery and now has become an integral part of day to day life here at the school.
This week all ages have been playing games and think the festivals are going to be a huge success. We have unearthed some talent here ready to be nurtured in the future.
The greatest success of course is the enjoyment everyone seems to be taking from the sport. Of course there are some that would prefer a game of football (Rome wasn't built in a day), but all have a smile on their face when playing.
After Christmas I hope there will be a structured after school club. The potential here is incredible and with a little more infrastructure and grass root engagement in playing, I have no doubt Rugby will continue to grow in Brazil.
Tomorrow I will be running a Teacher Education day about Rugby and the applications of tag Rugby at grass roots level.
We have around 20 people attending from teachers, to university students and a couple of club members from a nearby team. It is a great opportunity to spread the game across a much wider area and gain some great contacts that can help promote Rugby in the New Year!
Well that's all for this week, next week I will have some messages from the children and a full brief of everything that has been achieved here so far.
As always, thank you for reading my blog and by doing so, supporting this project and Rugby!
