Having endured a gut wrenching defeat on the road at Kingston Park to Newcastle Falcons (1st February 2003), with perhaps the worst 40 minutes of the season coming in the second half, the last thing that NEC Harlequins head coach Mark Evans expected was another no-show.
However, that is what he got against the Sharks last Saturday (8th February 2003) and it was a display that was very hard for him (and the supporters) to stomach.
"That was terrible," said the Quins boss disbelievingly.
"There is no other word for it," said Evans, still in a state of shock some time after the final whistle.
"If we play like that we'll go down. If we play like that we won't win another game this season," he continued.
"I still thought we were in with a chance at half-time, even at 13-0 down, but I thought that we were equally poor in both halves."
"We never got our game going at all. We made several handling errors in the first half and just completely fell apart. We didn't really play at any stage."
"Our defensive pattern fell apart and defensively we were poor and our combinations were average. I'm trying to think of a player who played quite well but I can't," he said trying to find some positives to take from the game.
"But when it falls apart, it falls apart."
