And so just three hours after England play Australia in the Rugby World Cup Final in Sydney, NEC Harlequins take on Bath at The Recreation Ground in a 1st Vs 2nd clash in the Zurich Premiership.
Bath who have lost just one game this season so far, are setting the pace at the top of the table, with NEC Harlequins leading the chasing group in pursuit of the West Country team. With new head coach John Connelly, formerly of Queensland Reds, and Stade Francais, Bath have completely turned around their form of last season. Despite suffering from a number of World Cup call ups as well as numerous injuries in the back line, they still have a strong squad. In the forwards new recruits David Flatman, Rob Fidler, Martin Lipman and Isaac Feuninati are all making a great impact alongside established Bath favourites such as Steve Borthwick and Jonathan Humphreys. While in the back line half backs Martin Wood and Ollie Barclay are orchestrating the show, with former England full back Matt Perry also playing well.
For Quins, after the disappointment of losing to Leeds in the Cup last weekend, this is another opportunity for the team to show their true potential. The starting line up will show just one change to last week's team with Gavin Duffy coming in at fullback for Josh Taumalolo who drops to the bench.
The game itself is likely to be a fierce contest between two dominant forward packs, with both sides looking to dominate the scrums, line outs and tackle area and thereby creating huge pressure on the opposition. The tactical kicking from both teams will be crucial to deciding the outcome of the game on Saturday afternoon.
Still on the road to recovery with Quins are Ace Tiatia and George Harder, both of whom are now very close to returning to 1st team action.
NEC Harlequins will travel across to Bath on Friday afternoon to complete their preparations and also to allow the squad the opportunity to support their two colleagues, Jason Leonard and Will Greenwood as they perform for England against Australia in the Rugby World Cup Final on Saturday morning.
