On Sunday 7th Sept NEC Harlequins U-19's started their season with an emphatic 56-15 victory over Middlesex U-19's. Quins came under early pressure from the Middlesex pack, but with Matt Hulland and Mark Lambert to the fore the Quins forwards soon got into the game.
Fly Half Brendan Leask opened the scoring with an outstanding drop goal. But it wasn't until the 22 minute that Quins started to show their class and turn pressure into points with Doug Spencer powering over for a try. This seemed to give Quins confidence and Tim McEwen added a penalty and James Sacha scored his first try of the afternoon to make the Half Time score 16-0.
The second half was completely dominated by the Quins who had far too much power for the county side. Mark Puttick scored early in the second half further tries came from Leask, Ian Martin and Alex Ayling. Middlesex managed to break away for three consolation tries before James Sacha added two more tries to complete his hat trick on his debut in a Quins shirt.
Tim McEwen had a fine day with his kicking with a personal tally of 13 points.
This was an excellent start to the season for the U-19's.
