NEC Harlequins U21s continued their winning start to the season with a 55-5 victory against their Rotherham counterparts on The Stoop.
With the strains of The Rolling Stones' sound check drifting across the A316, it was the visitors who got off to a flying start, taking a quick tapped penalty from deep in their own half and sprinting 50 meters to touch down. This was to prove to be a false dawn for Rotherham and a wake up call for the Quins side, who soon got on to the front foot with a well taken try by the speedy Williams.
As the Quins forwards began to dominate possession, fly half Jarvis was able to vary play to good effect, spreading the ball wide and using closer runners where required. With the home back row dominating loose play, and the outside backs proving too quick and elusive on the break, the score soon rattled towards twenty points. Williams added to his try with a well-taken dropped goal, and Jarvis kept the scoreboard ticking over with some well struck penalties.
The forwards were quick to get in on the scoring act, with flanker Cracknell recording his second hat-trick in as many weeks and lock Parker playing the role of 'loitering wing' to pick up his first try of the season.
Whilst this game provided a harder test than the first two matches, the Quins side was still allowed to get away with making some elementary mistakes. The tendency to "take the foot off the gas" must be eradicated in future games, with a goal to be to play for the full 80 minutes.
