On Saturday 18th October, the NEC Harlequins Under 19's were victorious against Bedford in a scrappy affair.
Quins started the stronger side, and within minutes winger Dene Richards crossed in the corner to open the try count, fly half Luke Cousins converting from the touchline. A shellshocked Bedford sprung into life, and promptly hit back with a try under the posts to level it at 7-7.
The game then degenerated into a flurry of personal battles and unforced errors, with the referee struggling to exert any control on the game. Just before half time, centre Mike Brown hit a perfect line off Cousins to cross under the sticks to lead 14-7 at half time.
Soon after half time, Bedford converted Quins indiscipline with a penalty to draw within one score.
However, with a few minutes to go, Ovier Koloko, from a planned move broke free to seal the win, Cousins missing the conversion 19-10.
This was not a pretty game, and with the man in the middle clearly out of his depth, it showed the character of this young Quins side to come through and get the victory.
5 wins out of 7, Quins continue to build.
