Tony Copsey, Managing Director of NEC Harlequins, speaks in today's Evening Standard (page 69, Friday 2nd August 2003) about the new Quins 'away' kit for the 2003/04 season.
Today's unveiling of the new style shirt is perhaps rugby's most controversial change of jersey. At a time when football and rugby clubs are exasperating fans with expensive changes of club colours, Quins are siding with their supporters and bemoaning the arrival of a new away strip to satisfy European Cup regulations.
Quins boast the most famous rugby colours in the world, and have never had to change jerseys in the history of the club due to never having clashed with any opposition's colours! Quins have admitted that they do not want to wear the new strip.
Before their first match of the new season on Saturday 13th September2003 (3.00pm) against London Wasps, Quins will be canvassing the opinion of their supporters on the new 'away' kit. Needless to say, the team will be wearing their famous colours when they play last season's Zurich Champions!
