Harlequins are delighted to announce Chris Robshaw has re-signed with the club until at least 2014.
The 24 year old Harlequins and England flanker, who has come through the Harlequins Academy, made his Premiership debut at the 2007/08 London Double Header, becoming Quins' first choice number 6, and was rewarded that season with a place in the England Saxons 2008 squad.
A successful 2008/09 season saw the back rower receive the prestigious title of Guinness Premiership Player of the season, along with his first International cap in the summer tour of 2009. Last summer he travelled with the England squad to Australia, where he captained England against the Australian Barbarians and the New Zealand Maori.
In his first season as Captain, Chris continues to impress. Not only does he have the full respect of the coaches and players at Quins, but he also has that throughout the Aviva Premiership, both on and off the pitch. He is a Captain who leads by example and after a number of strong performances he will no doubt be at the forefront of Martin Johnson's thoughts coming up to the World Cup.
Chris Robshaw, says:
"Harlequins are a great club and one which I think is on the verge of great things in the coming years. We have a squad with a great mix of youth and experience and we are trying to play a brand of rugby that will excite and challenge. I believe that through Harlequins a number of us can achieve our aims of playing for a winning club at the highest level whilst also pursuing our dreams of playing for our country.
"It is a real honour to be captain of one of the oldest rugby clubs in the world and certainly one of the most recognisable and in the short term I can't wait to lead the boys out on Friday in the Amlin Challenge Final, which will be our first major final since 2004."
Director of Rugby, Conor O'Shea, says:
"Chris Robshaw embodies everything this club is and wants to be about. We know people will move on but our intention is to keep the core of this group together for a long period of time and we intend to act early so they can trust that they are in this together.
" At still only 24 Chris wants to push on for both Harlequins and England, two goals that are well within his compass. I feel I would speak for a lot of players, staff and supporters when I say that we are delighted that Chris has made this decision to commit long term to Harlequins and I look forward to sitting down over the summer to secure a number of others from our squad to the same sort of timescales"
