Many of the academy boys were called up to play for Harlequins first XV this weekend up in Newcastle, but that didn't deter their loan clubs from loosing...
National League 1
Launceston 6
Esher 10
Launceston played their best rugby of the season, but a punishing 67th minute try from Esher sealed the deal.
It was Launceston who scored first with a penalty 21 minutes in despite some Esher pressure nearly putting the visitors over the line. Launceston could have added more points to the board at the beginning of the game but the penalty rebounded off the post.
This was all the action in the first half and a measly 3-0 lead to the hosts was all that anyone could bring to the table.
Esher levelled the scores in the 55th minute with a penalty but the turning point came when the Launceston flanker received a yellow card and Esher motored on over the Launceston line for a converted try. Launceston fought back and added another three points to the board, however Esher resiliently held on for the win, keeping them in amongst the top of the table. 6-10 the final score.
National League 2
Rosslyn Park 14
Shelford 11
A lucky escape for Rosslyn Park as they looked to have conceded their second loss of the season after going down 5-11 at half time. Blustery conditions made the kicking game hard, which was shown through Park's number of missed penalties.
Two penalties for the visitors saw them take a 0-6 lead, but Park responded by mauling the ball over the visitors line 29 minutes in, but Shelford came straight back with a great break down the middle, setting up Ed Mills to run over the line.
The second half saw Park come out and take the game to Shelford as Park's number ten kicked three penalties, the final one being the last kick of the game to win 14-11.
Worthing 5
Ealing 18
Dreadful weather caused for a hard fought game as torrential rain overnight and swirling winds on the day meant that both teams were going to have to tough out a win.
Ealing took control of the game in the first half and started the scoring when a clever switch of play to make a pinpoint kick to be collected and headed over the line for a try. Only a penalty later on in the half made for the score to be 0-8 at half time.
The second half saw Ealing miss another penalty, but this time the weather was not to blame. Ealing did however kick off the scoring again with a beautifully weighted grubber kick saw the ball picked up and sent over the line again.
Ealing put their feet up and allowed Worthing to come back and saw them break free and touch down for their first five points. Worthing thought they had scored five minutes later, but to Worthing's disappointment the referee called it back for a scrum. After this wobble, Ealing composed themselves to see out the remainder of the game adding another penalty and winning comfortably 5-18.
