Barbarians' president Micky Steele-Bodger said, "Next week's match will be a great occasion for both of our clubs. They have had close connections ever since eight Blackheath men were in the first-ever side fielded by the Barbarians in 1890. One of them, Percy Carpmael, went on to become the first president. In later years Brigadier H L Glyn Hughes was president of both clubs.
"It is fitting that having played Blackheath in the 75th and centenary seasons we are now returning to the Rectory Field in this, their historic 150th year."
The Barbarians will be coached by Bedford Blues' director of rugby Mike Rayer, whose four appearances for the club included the high profile match against Australia at Twickenham in 1992.
He said, "The Barbarians continue to have a special place in our rugby world. Playing for them was always a great honour and I had no hesitation in accepting the invitation to coach them on this occasion. I am looking forward to working with what appears to be a very well balanced squad of experienced and up and coming players."
Academy Manager, Tony Diprose said, " We are all extremely pleased for Seb, and it is good reward for the excellent form he has been in, for both for the Harlequins A team and as part of Esher's recent successful run. It is always an honour for any player to pull on the Barbarians shirt, and I'm sure Seb will appreciate the chance of playing for such a great club."
