Redruth v Esher 19th September 2009 This weekend was pretty quiet with only three academy boys playing for National League 1 team Esher at Redruth. The boys who were in the fray, were Seb Jewell, Chris York and Joe Marler warmed the bench.
The game started off with a bang, with 30 minutes of scintillating running rugby creating 20 points for the visitors, two converted tries and two penalties. Esher showing that they are looking for promotion sooner rather than later.
Redruth did press hard from the beginning with their right winger racing over on the left, touching down for a well taken try.
However, this brought life into Esher and they started rampaging around the field. Shawn Renwick went over from a lineout with Sam Ulph converting. Ulph grabbed a penalty and converted his team mate, Rod Turner's try minutes later and finished the half with another penalty. 5-20 at half time. The second half's only points for Esher came from the boot of Ulph with a drop goal to seal a final whistle win of 23-17, when Redruth made a valiant come back.
Esher went down to 13 men when Turner and Marler went to the sin bin and a last minute try from Redruth saw hope at the end of the tunnel, but no more points were to be scored. 23-17 the final score.
