Quins players Alex Rogers and Steve So'oialo were out and about recently at Quins affiliated club, Tunbridge Wells RFC, who hosted their annual Primary School Tag Rugby Festival on 29th April.
The event saw 20 local schools, 30 teams and 300 children (most of which play no club rugby) taking part. For the first time in the events history it received the generous sponsorship of AXA PPP Healthcare. The sponsorship made a huge difference by allowing the schools to play for 3 trophies this year rather than just one - with a plate and a shield up for grabs as well.
The Mead School were very much the benefactors of the additional trophies winning both the Shield (A Team) and the Plate (B Team). Claremont School A's won the main competition in a close final against their own B side. The trophies were presented by AXA PPP Healthcares David Clarke.
Quins players Alex Rogers and Steve So'oialo gave up one of their days off to come down to Kent to meet and greet all the children taking part and present the fair play award to St Marks School. (A team made up of year 4s (all the others being year 5 and 6) they showed great courage and sportsmanship in defeat and all played with a smile, which is what rugby is all about. The visit of the Quins players provided great inspiration for the kids on the day.
All in all, it was a great day for everyone involved and an illustration of what can be achieved in childrens rugby when you combine the voluntary efforts of local Clubs, the generosity of local sponsors and the Quins Community Team and players. TWRFC and the local schools take this opportunity to thank all concerned (especially their very own Julie Nicholds who masterminded the whole event)
