Since I last spoke to you two weeks ago, we have been able to announce that 21 players from last years squad have been retained here at NEC Harlequins for our forthcoming campaign in National Division One.
I am delighted to announce that in addition to that group of players both Karl Rudzki and Henry Barratt have also signed new contracts with Quins for next season, and they will be joining the rest of the squad on Monday 20th June at Roehampton when they commence their pre-season training programme.
As we have stated before, there will also be a number of new signings for next season and we should be in a position to announce these in the near future.
Having got through what was a very difficult and painful period after the defeat to Sale on 30th April, we are now all looking forward to the new season. The immediate priority is our move to Roehampton, to ensure that everything is in place for 20th June.
Work is taking place with respect to the new weights gym, as well as the immediate issue of moving all our office and fitness equipment from Aldershot. For the initial period, it will be 'cosy' in our new offices as we will be sharing with all the staff from the Stoop, but by the time we get to the new season we should have everything in place for a successful campaign.
We have two pre-season fixtures confirmed:
Friday 12th August - Vs London Irish (the Stoop)
Friday 26th August - Vs Saracens (Vicarage Road)
We are currently looking for at least one more fixture during August as part of our preparations for our first National Division One game away to Pertemp Bees on Saturday 3rd September.
The response we have received from both sponsors and season ticket holders alike continues to be overwhelming; season ticket sales are now in excess of 2,500 some three months before the start of the new season. This was truly reflected in the very positive atmosphere at last Thursday's (19th May) end of season dinner, which I am sure everyone thoroughly enjoyed.
I would just like to take this opportunity to thank all our sponsors, season ticket holders and fans for the support that they have shown to the club over the last few weeks. I understand that Tony Copsey's Loyalty Wall is going to have to be extended!
Speak to you all again in two weeks time.
