The annual NEC Harlequins City Dinner took place at The Brewery last Wednesday night (7th December). This event is now a well placed tradition in the Quins calendar and was attended by club sponsors, city based companies and supporters alike.
This black tie event is a great opportunity for all to relax and enjoy an evening with friends and Quins players past and present away from the Stoop, as well as a chance to enhance the club's link with the City.
BBC rugby correspondent Iain Robertson was MC and after dinner entertainment was provided by Bob 'The Cat' Bevan. Furthermore, there was a Q&A session with Quins Director of Rugby Dean Richards, along with Will Greenwood and Andrew Mehrtens.
The evening also provides a great opportunity to raise funds for charity. Auction items on the night included a champagne balloon flight followed by dinner at Le Manior, an all expenses paid trip to the Hong Kong Sevens and an All Blacks shirt signed by the 22 members of the team who played against England at Twickenham last month.
Along with the raffle, where prizes were kindly donated by NEC, Lexus, Amida Health Club, Guy Salmon Land Rover and Premier Rugby, the evening raised in excess of £4,000 for Quins official charity; the Richard Langhorn Trust.
To celebrate NEC's tenth season as Club and Title Sponsor, the guests on the evening were shown a special video about Quins throughout the last decade, which included some of the stars of world rugby who have worn the famous quartered shirt. Following this, Managing Director of NEC, Dave Payette was presented with a commemorative Silver Salver to celebrate this special occasion.
*NB - The next event on the NEC Harlequins calendar is the 'End of Season Players Awards Dinner and Dance' at a venue to be confirmed. This will take place in May 2006.
The cost per person is £115 + VAT and Quins Club members are entitled to a discount on this price. To reserve your place or a table at this event, please contact Julian Gent in the Quins office on 020 8410 6060 or by email at juliang@quins.co.uk
