NEC Harlequins recorded an emphatic victory over the Norths Club from Sydney at Imber Court last night (Monday 5th December), scoring eight tries in a 56-0 win. Charlie Amesbury claimed a hat-trick of touchdowns, while Adrian Jarvis enjoyed a successful night with the boot by converting all eight scores.
Quins opened their account from a lineout deep in the Norths twenty-two, with James Hayter claiming the try after a rolling maul had come to a hault short of the line. Jarvis added the extras and then converted a try from Aston Croall three minutes later, which was set-up following good work from Tom Guest.
Ten minutes before the break and at a scrum five metres from the Norths line, Ian Vass picked up the ball from the set-piece and darted over for Quins third try of the night, with Jarvis again adding the two extra points on offer. A flowing move from the backs straight from the restart resulted in Amesbury claiming the first of his three tries that Jarvis converted.
Just before the interval, Kiba Richards cut in off the left wing and broke through the Norths defence before touching down under the posts. Jarvis made no mistake with the simple conversion to give Quins a 35-point lead at the halfway stage.
Guest was driven over for try number six soon after the restart and after having a try disallowed for being offside, Amesbury was given a simple run-in just before the end of the third quarter to claim his second score of the evening. Two successful conversions from Jarvis took Quins tally up to 49 points.
Amesbury completed his hat-trick in style by going on an excellent individual run that started just outside the Quins twenty-two. Jarvis finished the scoring in the match with the conversion, to take his personal tally to 16 points.
Final score, 56-0.
