NEC Harlequins finished this seasons Zurich A League campaign with a 6-3 victory over Bath at the Recreation Ground last night (Tuesday 29th March). Heavy rain prevented either side from playing much expansive rugby and it was two penalties from Will Greenwood, in his first game back from a shoulder injury, which ultimately gave Quins a win.
It was the home side who had the better of the first half and it was they who led at half-time. However, fly half Ramiro Pez converted just one of three penalty attempts to give Bath a slender three-point advantage at the interval.
13 minutes after the restart and Quins were back on level terms. After Bath were penalised for being offside, Greenwood made no mistake with his kick at goal from in front of the posts to level the score (3-3). With conditions worsening and time running out, Greenwood converted what would be the match winning penalty four minutes from time.
The home side had the better of the closing stages, but Quins held out for their ninth win from ten matches in this seasons Zurich A League. Despite this victory, it was not enough to see Quins qualify for next months final, as they finished second in the South Zone league behind London Wasps.
Final score, 3-6.
