NEC Harlequins Wanderers rallied well to beat an England Under 18 side in a closely contested game at Aldershot yesterday (Sunday 6th March 2005).
Neither side managed to go more than one score ahead throughout the game and although England scored the opening try midway through the first half, Luke Cousins boot kept the young Quins team in touch. Trailing 13-6 at half-time, the Wanderers took the game to England after the restart.
Cousins kept the scoreboard ticking over, as the England kicker managed to add just two further penalties to their tally. However, it was the Quins pressure that eventually told as Kiba Richards scored near the touchline. Luke Cousins added the extras to leave the final score at 22 -19.
The Wanderers performance was epitomised by good teamwork and a never say die fighting spirit. Again, many young players were given an opportunity to play and performed admirably.
