12 members of the NEC Harlequins squad got the opportunity to try out three different sports cars on behalf of the Channel 4 programme ‘Driven'. The cars that were being reviewed were a Caterham 7 Supersport 1.8, a Vauxhall VX 220 and a Lotus Elite 1.8. Though this was no ordinary test drive.
The group, that included Garrick Morgan, Roy Winters, Eric Peters, Nick Greenstock, Daren O'Leary and Bruce Starr, weren't checking out the cars acceleration or road handling capabilities, in fact they didn't even get the chance to drive the car's at all. They were finding out whether they could actually fit in them in the first place!
Needless to say that some of the boy's found this a troublesome task. Facial expressions seemed to suggest that they would rather tackle Jonah Lomu at full speed, then try to fit in the claustrophobic space of the car's driver's seat.
"I'll get the crow-bar," cried Nick Greenstock, as Garrick Morgan attempted to find his way into the Vauxhall VX 220.
Once they had squeezed themselves in, the programme presenter's Jason Plato, Mike Brewer and Penny Mallery asked them their opinions on the various cars. If getting in proved to be a tricky experience, prizing themselves out of the vehicles proved to be equally as tough. Thankfully, all the player's came through unscathed - it's a pitty that the same can't be said for the cars, each of which are valued over £20,000!
