NEC Harlequins Associate Club Teddington were in an unique position on Sunday 2nd May as they were the only club to have representation in all four age groups (Under 7, Under 8, Under 9 and Under 10) at the finals of the Richmond & Twickenham Times Cup taking place at the Stoop.
The Richmond & Twickenham Times Cup is rapidly becoming one of the regions premier mini rugby competitions. Over 40 teams set out on the trail for cup glory back in September, with teams coming from all over the south east.
Teddington's quest for cup glory started back in October outplaying spirited opposition from Battersea Ironsides, Guildfordians and Hove in the group stages. The Under 9's played some excellent rugby, scoring 11 tries without conceding one! With all teams qualifying for March's semi-finals, stage one was completed.
As the competition toughened the Teddington players were able to raise their game. Only the eventual winners, the Under 7's and Under 9's looked like real favourites. However, some excellent rugby was again played by all teams who qualified for the finals day. This is great credit to all the players and coaches who work so hard every morning down at Imber Court.
So to finals day and Teddington were perhaps hoping for a 'Grand Slam,' but the regions best were assembled to take them on.
The Under 7's played Pulborough from Sussex in the final eliminator and after qualifying fairly comfortably they then met Ruislip in the final. The rugby was excellent with both teams scoring fairly freely, however Teddington emerged as 30-15 winners.
The Under 8's came up against Dorking and then a very strong side from New Milton (Hampshire) who eventually won the Under 8 title.

The Under 10 age group was a very strong one, including well fancied Chobham and dark horses Tunbridge Wells, who saw off a spirited Teddington side in the final eliminator.
Saving the Under 9's until last, they have totally dominated the competition and looked a very strong side. They saw off Dorking and Westcombe Park and surely start as favourites for next years competition.
Congratulations to all the winners and a big thank you from the Quins Community Team to all the teams that took part this season.
