NEC Harlequins booked their place in the quarterfinals of the inaugural Compass Group International 7's at the Stoop after finishing the pool stages with a 100% winning record.
The host team opened the competition with a 31-21 victory over Staroba Orange, with Simon Keogh claiming a hat-trick of tries. Quins then had few problems defeating the Public School Wanderers in their second match, as two tries from Jim Evans and one apiece from Andy Reay and summer signing Joe Mbu resulted in a comprehensive victory by 26-7.
Top spot in the group was at stake when Quins met Fiji Global Samurai in their final match of the day. First half scores from Reay and Keogh gave Quins a 12-0 lead at half-time, before Reay's second try of the match just after the break gave the home side a commanding 19-0 advantage that would be the final scoreline.
Quins will now face Northampton Saints in the quarterfinals of the main cup competition tomorrow (Saturday 7th August), kick-off 1.00pm.
During week commencing 22nd April Harlequins will launch an innovative, new Membership Scheme which will replace the existing Season Ticket Holder Programme. Further details of the scheme will be announced in due course.
