On Saturday (21st February), NEC Harlequins Under 19's faced their Saracens counterparts at the Stoop for the second time in three weeks. The young Quins side this time managed a victory by 17-8 over the team that had beaten them 20-10 two weeks earlier (7th February).
Quins forwards started well and straight away put the Saracens pack on the back foot and it wasn't long before prop Alex Fisher had scored the opening try of the match. The forwards kept the pressure on and from a lineout close to the Sarries line, the Quins forwards drove the visitors back for Fisher to claim his second try of the afternoon.
Saracens then started to get themselves into the game and for the first time managed to get into Quins half. After some good defence, the home side finally gave away a penalty for Saracens to make the half-time score 10-3.
In the second half there was good rugby played by both teams with Quins backs making some telling breaks, only for the final pass not to go to hand. Mike Brown and Jonny Wehbe both caused the Saracens defence problems but it was the visitors' backs who made the next score with the Sarries full back scoring a very good individual try to close the gap.
However, it was Quins centre Tosh Masson who was to have the final say with another fantastic individual try from the halfway line to secure an excellent victory over our London rivals.
The game finished on a sad note with Alex Rodgers badly injuring his knee in the last minute of the game. Alex was due to represent England Under 18 next Saturday, so it was particularly disappointing. Everybody wishes Alex a speedy recovery.
