During the season just finished NEC Harlequins continued to support charities, both local, national and, in particular, the British Paralympic Association to assist them in their efforts to raise much needed income.
Although a proportion of these are registered charities the majority do not receive official funding. Consequently, to provide adequate funds, they need the help provided through donations readily given by our members and the thousands of spectators who supported their own clubs at our home matches.
Last season your kindness raised nearly £30,000 for the organisations who collected at the Stoop and the club is indebted to you for this generosity. We hope, in the coming season, you will feel able to continue this support, which goes such a long way to ease the hurt and disabilities of those less fortunate than ourselves.
In addition, some 400 appeal letters were received from small charities, local schools, rugby clubs and many other organisations - all of whom received a reply and were supported in kind. The 'thank you' letters that came flooding in made one realise how valuable this support was in augmenting their own voluntary efforts.
Charities that made a ground collection were as follows: -
British Paralympic Association
Children's Day Appeal
Multiple Sclerosis Society
Homelink Day Respite Care
Ray of Hope X-Ray Appeal
Twickenham Sea Cadets
Angels Against Addiction
ARCOS
CSF
White Lodge Centre
Motor Neurone Disease Assn
Billy Davidson Testimonial
Richmond & Twickenham Primary Care Trust
The hundreds of volunteer workers who give of their spare time to make collections, in all weathers, helping to provide the resources necessary to make the lives of others a little happier, will much appreciate your continued support.
Please remember, every penny donated is crucial to the wellbeing of every charity!
