NEC Harlequins Vs Leeds Tykes, Zurich Premiership - Friday 3rd May 2002, kick-off 7.45pm
NEC Harlequins game against Leeds Tykes in the Zurich Premiership will now take place at the Stoop on
Friday 3rd May 2002, kick-off 7.45pm, as opposed to Saturday 4th May 2002, kick-off 3.00pm, as previously advertised.
The reason for this rearrangement is because when the original fixture list was issued at the beginning of the season the Heineken Cup and Parker Pen Shield semi-finals were due to take place on Saturday 4th May 2002, with Quins Premiership game against Leeds to be played on Saturday 27th April 2002.
The date for the European semi-finals was then changed to 27th/28th April, with the Premiership games being put back to 4th/5th May. Unfortunately for Quins, this date (4th May) clashes with the Army Vs Navy game at Twickenham, which is expected to attract a crowd of between 30,000 and 40,000.
For reasons of safety and traffic congestion, Quins are not allowed to play a Premiership game at the Stoop when a crowd of that size is expected across the road at Twickenham. This gave the club the option to either move the game to Friday evening, as we have done, or to the Sunday.
NEC Harlequins appreciate that this decision will not please everyone, but unfortunately the game can't go ahead on the scheduled date of Saturday 4th May 2002.
