NEC Harlequins new signing John Brooks as well as Jim Evans and Will Skinner were all part of the England Saxons team that beat Scotland A 18-3 at Twickenham yesterday (28th May). It's a result that means England are through to the Churchill Cup Final this Saturday (2nd June), kick-off 4.30pm at Twickenham.
Having impressed in the Saxons 51-3 victory over the USA at Edgeley Park (Friday 18th May), all three players were once again selected to start against Scotland A. Brooks started at tighthead prop, alongside the London Irish duo of hooker David Paice and prop Neal Hatley in the front row, while Evans partnered Worcester Warriors Richard Blaze in the second row.
Will Skinner started on the openside flank in the back row that also included Phil Dowson of Newcastle Falcons and James Haskell of London Wasps.
Following the game Skinner said: "Obviously the conditions weren't great, but it was a dogged performance by the forwards and we're very pleased with the result. The Scots fronted up well and kept it tight but we've worked a lot on our defence in training this week and our communication and commitment was very good."
"They put us under a lot of pressure but they weren't able to break our line; it's a huge positive for us that they didn't get a try against us."
The victory means England Saxons will now face either the New Zealand Maori or Ireland A, who play tonight (Tuesday 29th May), in the Churchill Cup Final this weekend.
