Quins battled hard to take home the four points and return to winning ways. Early pressure from Worcester came to nothing as Harlequins' defence stood strong against the Warriors pack, which is renowned for its strength, and Quins gained confidence to push forward.
They were rewarded after just 18 minutes when flanker Chris Robshaw broke the deadlock. A break down the blindside wing from Ugo Monye was driven back by Worcester captain Pat Sanderson. Quins recycled the ball and quick hands from De Wet Barry saw him pass inside for Robshaw to dive over the try line. (0-5)
Only five minutes later, pressure from a driving maul by the Quins pack made space for Nick Easter to burst through the Worcester defence and pop off to Gary Botha, who slid in to score his first try for the club. (0-10)
Worcester looked to fight back but could not capitalise on a period of time attacking on1 Quins twenty-two and a turn over gave a chance for fly-half Chris Malone to clear the ball with a kick deep into touch in the Worcester half. This created a chance for Quins to come back with an inspiring run from David Strettle, bouncing through three Worcester tackles and forcing a penalty against Worcester for not rolling away. However, Malone failed to convert the penalty to put an extra three points on the scoreboard, meaning Quins went into the break with a 10 point lead.
In the second half the clouds opened and the dismal weather conditions made it very difficult for both sides. The Warriors, desperate for their first win in the Guinness Premiership, made a number of substitutions hoping to spark a revival. Nonetheless, they could still not break down the Quins defence - all they could salvage was a losing bonus point. Worcester's replacement fly-half, Loki Crichton, added some much needed energy, and scored an individual try after winning the race to his own chip through, and followed up by slotting the conversion with only three minutes left on the clock. (7-10)
Final score 7-10
