<1R>Last Thursday (28th August) Harlequins Community Development Officer Ben Thurlow traveled with London based Emanuel School to the Brecon Beacons National Park in Wales to assist in preparing their senior rugby teams for the 2007/08 season.
Over the six day camp, Ben and the Emanuel School training team focused on evasive running, SAQ, attacking and offloading, and defensive organization in order to improve the side's skills during their pre-season training camp.
Director of Sport at Emanuel School, Sean Bettinson said: "Our pre-season training camp is a crucial vehicle for preparing our senior teams for the upcoming rugby season and it's brilliant that Quins have supported us by allowing Ben to come to Wales with us and help us prepare for our 1st game of the season against Caterham School in a few weeks time."
Under glorious sunshine in one of Britain's most beautiful National Parks, the boys from Emanuel School trained for at least three and a half hours each day but with so much more on their doorstep, the group got to experience a multitude of other activities with the focus firmly on team building and learning to work together. Rock climbing, abseiling and a trip to watch the Ospreys versus Bristol in a pre-season fixture at the Liberty Stadium were amongst the activities designed to bind the players together as a team.
Ben said: "I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Emanuel School in Brecon and throughout the camp the players all worked extremely hard and showed real dedication to their school teams despite the intense and unexpected heat of the Welsh summer! I'm looking forward to visiting some of their matches this season and seeing the skills we learnt and practiced put into match action."
Emanuel School will be visiting the Twickenham Stoop Stadium for various fixtures throughout the 2007/08 season and the Club look forward to welcoming them to the home of Harlequins.
