<1R>520 participants from from Whitstable RFC, Teddington RFC, Upminster RFC and Dorking RFC all competed in the Etihad Airways Curtain Raiser Cup on both the main pitch and Craneford Way on Saturday 3rd November when Harlequins played Worcester Warriors in the EDF Energy Cup.
The Etihad Airways Curtain Raiser Cup resulted in the following teams qualifying for the next round of the tournament.
Teams Qualifying for the Semi Finals:
- Under 7's: Teddington RFC
- Under 8's: Teddington RFC
- Under 9's: Teddington RFC
- Under 10's: Upminster RFC
- Under 11's: Teddington RFC
- Under 12's: Upminster RFC
Harlequins Community Development Officer Ben Thurlow said: 'This week we saw some of the closest qualifying groups this season in the Etihad Airways Curtain Raiser Cup and it's brilliant to see such a high standard of play and determination.'
'The competition is moving along swiftly and we're beginning to see the semi finals unfold. Next week when we play Cardiff Blues in the Heineken Cup we're expecting 32 teams so I'm excited to see so many clubs looking to be crowned Etihad Airways Curtain Raiser Cup champions.'
The Guard of Honour, forming the tunnel the players run through when they enter the main pitch, was made up with 50 players from Teddington RFC Under 12's, Upminster RFC Under 12's & Whitstable RFC Under 12's.
<2R>Harlequins also hosted an RFU World Cup Tag Rugby Competition at the Twickenham Stoop. Run by the Surrey RFU Development Team this was a tournament with 400 participants aimed at novice tag rugby teams from primary schools within Surrey. After a busy morning's rugby, the finalists got to play at half-time on the Twickenham Stoop pitch.
Harlequins Community Manager Richard Varney said: 'The Harlequins Vs Worcester Warriors fixture was a busy day for the Quins Community Team. and the feedback on the quality of the experience we are providing has been extremely positive.'
