Hi Quins fans Another blog all the way from Brazil to keep you going after the win in the Heineken Cup, let's keep the rugby going and keep on moving.
Well for this week as you can imagine, again it was a hot one. Brazil seems to be a land of crazy heat even when it is cloudy, but it beats that cold feeling at home. This week has been centred around the tag rugby push and introducing the basics to everyone so that next week I can put them into a real game situation and see how it goes from there.
The week has been up and down with me preparing a lot of Harlequins posters with the help of students and student teachers - language is always fun in this situation but we got there. The kids have all been colouring in their Harlequins logos and they will be put up around the school to promote my team and rugby in general. The saddest part of the week was that we said goodbye to Michelle Brisola who is going off to manage a SESI school in Itapeva. She has helped me non stop and I can't thank her enough for her time.
The kids' affection for strangers out here is amazing - I walk down the stairs with a rugby ball and you hear them all cheer, I hope the sport really works out well and we build the greatest team in Brazil here in Tatui. Within the tag games I am trying to instil a lot of rugby respect and discipline to them so that when we eventually play other schools we will step up first and say thanks.
The last two days of school this week got cut off early due to weather and events but on Thursday night the future athletes program got off to a great start with a large number of lads coming down to try out the game; we now have enough for a 7s team so here comes the hard work. Wink wink!
To be honest I do not have a lot more to say this week, but it did end on a high note with me playing and teaching the teachers how to play on Wednesday. That was great fun for all, and as Friday was a holiday for children, we went off to a local community to have some fun with the local kids and play a bit of rugby before yet again the rain hit. I must admit playing rugby in a Fred Flintstone suit with batman painted over your face is quite interesting, but the kids enjoyed it and learnt some basics so I was happy.
So thanks again for taking time to read this blog and I will let you know how this week's tournament went which is being held on Saturday.
Stay tuned Tchau
