Harlequins Rob Buchanan walked away with the prize for the best Victoria Sponge on Tuesday afternoon as Harlequins took on London Irish in a bake off competition with Harlequins also winning the team contest.
Stuart Marston-Smith from this year's Great British Bake Off tasked Olly Kohn, Mark Lambert and Rob Buchanan from the Aviva Premiership Champions and Topsy Ojo, Jonathan Joseph and Matt Garvey from London Irish to make a Victoria Sponge. All the ingredients were pre-weighed and laid out for the contestants but there was no recipe.
Harlequins took their time over the mixing process, while London Irish's cakes were in the oven within five minutes. Once all out Stuart tasted all six cakes and gave the overall team vote to Harlequins and voted Rob's as the best cake!
On the victory Rob commented: "I had great fun today and am really pleased to have come away with the win! It was a bit of a surprise as I haven't baked much before, so maybe it's a hidden talent!
"We're looking forward to Sunday now and to taking them on on the pitch in the Premiership."
The two teams go head to head again this Sunday at the Madejski Stadium in Reading in the seventh round of the Aviva Premiership. Kick off is at 14.15 and tickets are still available. Visit http://www.london-irish.com/ for more information.
