Harlequins launched its new Membership Scheme three weeks ago and already over 1,700 memberships have been taken out for next season, including over 200 by new supporters.
This week has been fantastic! More smiles, more rugby and more development. The children are really starting to pick up the philosophies behind rugby and are finally starting to respect one another as well as us as teachers/coaches. The explanation of the Tag rules is proving slightly trickier than I first imagined and they seem to be struggling with the emotional trauma of having your tag taken. The concept of being tagged and playing on is a big step and we will be battling through next week! I will be using my creative initiative and making big TAG Rugby posters with the rules of the game so that they are all over the school. This way, come my festivals at the end of November, all the kids should have a firm understanding of the rules and regulations and dominate on the pitch!
Well this week has really just been those few but very important stepping stones. As everyone that reads this knows Rugby is a unique sport in its philosophies and team spirit with Quins fans standing side by side with Tigers, Saint and Saracens and every other jersey. In football it is much less common; in Brazilian football it is impossible. So when I say Palmerais and Corithians (Brazilian Man Utd and Man City) are amigos in rugby, they cannot believe it! But we are getting there!
Tomorrow is the RWC 2015 Qualifier Brazil vs Paraquay and a lot of us are making our way down to do a bit of pre game coaching with some kids from a few of the schools and then to kick back and watch the game! A full match report to follow next week!
