Hi it's that time of the week again.
Well this week had its up and downs but I carried on and made it into a good week for rugby, with our first proper games of rugby in lessons. We played very simple rules but each class picked it up well. The girls were fantastic, kept it going and played the game in its simplicity. The boys got very competitive which was good to see, but they struggled with the principle of play going forward, but I am sure next week the game will move up another notch.
The future athletes program moved up another notch as well, with a huge amount of children joining up to make a couple of teams for Tatui. The biggest success was the under 17s where a very close group of friends have come down together and are really starting to enjoy rugby. Apart from their normal session they also stay for adult rugby to get some more tutelage in the skills for the game. As we have not started contact yet, it's good for them to improve their handling skills and knowledge. They also played a game of touch against the adults and proved again to me that Brazil has a great future in the game, as they have picked up the basics so fast, it's pretty amazing.
This weekend we had another huge sports day with the inclusion of rugby for 13-14 year old students at SESI. Seven schools attended with me coaching and playing with over 70 kids during the day - they again struggled with the concept of go forward but apart from the rain causing problems, the day turned out really well with over seven games being played with a final that got finished off in torrential rain!
Each week is getting better and better with each class, and the school is getting involved in many different ways with the younger ones drawing in and colouring in Harlequins logos and pictures. The older ones are getting to know the club through videos and the internet and also the community embracing the club as a whole and really beginning to follow each game each week. This Saturday night was great fun as well - I got to spend some time with a great person.
My Portuguese seems to be getting better each week and I am beginning to understand more and more but it's great fun! I am struggling with internet access at the moment and sending photos so I hope to send more soon. Great start for Harlequins in the Heineken Cup, I haven't managed to see Saturday's game but I am following avidly on the news and twitter - let's keep up the good start.
