Harlequins hosted an exciting and competitive under 12 and under 11 grassroots tournament last month, the Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup.
The successful series of nationwide tournaments continues to grow and allow young rugby players to showcase their capabilities in a professionally run environment.
The under 12 final was a fantastic spectacle for those in attendance, with the impressive Kings Rugby RFC keeping their composure to secure a fine victory over Camberley RFC , who showed great integrity in defeat and made sure that they challenged Kings Rugby RFC right until the final whistle.
In the under 11 final, Sutton and Epsom RFC were triumphant, playing with great confidence to defeat Farnham RFC, who displayed great resolve to ensure that Sutton and Epsom RFC had to be at their very best throughout the match so that they could be crowned Regional Champions.
As well as winning the tournament, the young players have also won places in the prestigious Land Rover Parade of Champions where they will be presented to a sell-out crowd at Twickenham during the Aviva Premiership Rugby Final next May.
In addition, the Land RoverSpirit of Rugby Award, which goes to a player who showed great determination and composure to overcome any obstacles or challenges that presented themselves, was given to Sam Mayhew who despite being physically one of the smaller players, displayed great courage and did not shy away from taking on players larger than himself, and in the process led his team by a great example.
Participating players at the festival also had the opportunity to meet Harlequins players Joe Gray and Nick Mayhew who took time out of his schedule to watch the young teams as well as offer some coaching tips between games.
Harlequins Community Manager Gerald Kelly commented:
"It is great to have the support of Land Rover to run a first class festival and provide children with the chance to meet some of the Harlequins first team players. I would also like to thank Farnham Rugby Club for the use of their immaculate pitches and stunning new club house. It really was a fantastic day with some great rugby being played."
