The Senior Club

Harlequin Amateurs Rugby Club was set-up after the sport turned professional to foster the great traditions of amateur rugby. Our club colours are the same famous quartered shirts we all know and love. Harlequin Amateurs are based in Teddington, a spiritual home of Harlequin FC (if you know your Quins history!). The club has access to superb facilities provided by St. Mary's University College at their main campus on Waldegrave Road and Broom Road, opposite the TV studios.

The club fields 3 sides, the 1st XV play in the ultra competitive Herts/Middx 1, our 2nd XV compete in the Middlesex Merit Table and our Vets (over 35!) play in the Surrey Leagues. The Club has attracted lots of new players, drawn to the club by our excellent facilities, quality coaching and thriving social calendar. We tour every year, in May 2010 we took part in the Warsaw 10's and in May 2011 we are heading to Toulouse - a real rugby hotbed.

Mini and Youth Rugby

As part of the ongoing development of our club we launched SIMMSQUINS mini rugby in 2009, this is a joint partnership between Harlequin Amateurs and St. Mary's University College. We run age group rugby from Under 5 through to Under 12. We aim to provide top quality coaching for all our children; we therefore cap our age groups at approx 30 children.

Following on from the success of our mini's programme we launched Youth Rugby at the start of the 2010/11 season for Under 13's and Under 14's, in 2011/12 we will launch Under 15 rugby. Our ethos is simple - rugby for all ages should be fun, but in particular for our mini's and youth players we want to instill in them the core values of rugby and hopefully nurture a lifelong love of the game.

We are delighted to have Jonny Searle MBE and Olympic Champion as our Chairman of Mini and Youth Rugby, Jonny loves sport and is a real advocate that sport should be fun and well coached - success can follow!

Our young players are coached by students from St. Mary's University under the SIMMPSORT programme; many of these students play rugby themselves to a high standard. Our student coaches also benefit from working with enthusiastic kids and their parents (!, )something that will we hope helps them as they embark on their future careers, many of them hope to become teachers or have careers in sport.

The club also has a long term commitment to develop our own players as coaches, indeed many of our current players can be found helping out on Sunday mornings, despite playing and partying hard on a Saturday!
