Harlequins fall short of Munster challenge in tough European encounter

Sunday, 13th December 2020 @ 20:15

Three yellow cards would prove too high a challenge to overcome for the travelling Quins, with Paul Gustard’s side fighting to the end in the Club’s first European game of the season.

Munster would claim three tries on Sunday evening, with referee Pascal Gauzere handing Munster a penalty try in the 50th minute after Quins' openside Will Evans was shown yellow for bringing down the Munster maul close to Harlequins’ line – with blindside flanker James Chisholm and number eight Alex Dombandt also receiving yellows at Thomond Park.

The home side would also claim a try in the 70th minute, with blindside flanker Gavin Coombes crashing over from short range.

Two penalties from the boot of starting fly-half JJ Hanrahan, a conversion and penalty from substitute fly-half Ben Healy brought Munster’s points total to 21 for the day, with Harlequins claiming seven points from a 56th-minute score for wing Cadan Murley, with the winger fighting his way through Munster’s fringe defence after a well-identified miss pass from scrum-half Danny Care.

Next up, Gustard’s men look to claim a big first win of their European campaign against Paris side Racing 92 next Sunday, as the Club welcomes fans back to The Stoop.
