On Tuesday evening, Harlequins Academy and Global Development Director Tony Diprose led a Women’s coaching clinic at the San Francisco Golden Gate Rugby club.

Over 40 women from the Golden Gate rugby club, Lamorinda youth team and the San Jose Seahawks were present for the 90 minute session on Treasure Island which focussed on a variety of drills and structures for both defence and attack.

Using the techniques and practices coached to the senior Harlequins squad, the women gained valuable experience and are now able to take back a number of skills, plays and techniques to their respective clubs ahead of the new season.

Commenting on the evening’s events, Diprose said: “We are looking to develop a relationship with USA Rugby here in Northern California and importantly that includes both the women's and the men’s games.

“It’s really important that we drive this side of the game as the Rio Olympics will show women’s rugby in a fantastic light in the next couple of weeks. San Francisco is a hot bed for women’s rugby, some of the girls this evening were really skilfull and it was great to see so many coming down for the session.

“Hopefully a few of them will go away with some fresh ideas and some new thoughts to take to their clubs; most importantly it seemed like they enjoyed themselves out there.”
