Harlequins side to face Northampton Saints

Thursday, 18th November 2021 @ 12:00

Harlequins’ coaching contingent have named the side to host Saints in the Prem Cup this Friday

Set for another round of Friday Night Lights, Quins’ coaches have made five changes to the starting XV that fell to Saracens last weekend.

One of those five changes to the side this week sees Tongan international Viliami Taulani make his debut for the Club having singed for the reigning Gallagher Premiership side over the summer.

Also stepping into the starting XV this week are Harlequins Academy pair George Hammond and Oscar Beard, with Scottish international Scott Steele taking up the scrum-half berth from the first whistle. Hammond pairs fellow Academy lock Hugh Tizard in the engine room in place of Club Captain Stephan Lewies this week, while Beard replaces Ross Chisholm on the wing. In the front row, Argentinian international Santiagi Garcia Botta starts at loosehead in place of Simon Kerrod.

In Lewies' absence this week, back-row Archie White takes up the captaincy after a standout showing against Saracens last weekend.

Tighthead prop Will Hobson will look to make his senior debut for the Club from the bench this weekend, with the Academy front-rower replacing Will Collier in the 18 jersey amongst the Impact Players this week.

Also looking to make his debut in the Famous Quarters this weekend, former NFL man Christian Scotland-Williamson makes his return from injury off the bench this Friday, set for his first game of rugby since 2017.

Commenting ahead of the fixture, Skills and Kicking Coach Charlie Mulchrone said: “It was great to see some boys back out on the pitch last weekend. The Prem Cup is a great opportunity for the wider senior squad and our younger boys to show what they can do, and despite the loss last weekend we took a large number of positives from the game.

“Northampton are a very different team this week in the way they approach the game. It should be a little bit more open, something both Quins fans and neutrals can look forward to.

“It’s great to see Viliami, Will and Christian in a matchday squad for the first time for us. They’re guys we are excited to see out there and I’m sure they will make an impact for us going forward.”
