Harlequins will face United Rugby Championship sides Cardiff Rugby and Leinster in pre-season friendly matches this summer

Gallagher Premiership Champions Harlequins have confirmed their plans to return to play ahead of the start of the new season, with Senior Coach Tabai Matson leading the coaching team for the first time.

The first pre-season match will see Cardiff Rugby travel to South West London on Saturday, September 4, marking the 140th anniversary of the two sides' first meeting in 1881/82.

The following week, Harlequins will travel to Ireland to face Irish powerhouses Leinster in a clash of champions. Quins travel to the reigning, eight-time United Rugby Championship titleholders at the RDS Arena in Dublin on Friday, September 10.

Excited to oversee his first Harlequins fixtures, Senior Coach Tabai Matson said: “We are delighted to have arranged two pre-match fixtures against excellent opposition.

“Cardiff and Leinster will offer the team two great tests as we look to hit the ground running in our first game of the 2021/22 season.”

Chief Executive Officer Laurie Dalrymple noted: “We are delighted to return to play and look forward to two good matches. We know our supporters can’t wait to see the Gallagher Premiership champions and many will wish to attend – we will share details regarding tickets in due course.

“We look forward to the Stoop opening for the Gallagher Premiership in September and Season Ticket Membership remains on sale, with Match Tickets launching in the coming weeks. We will shortly also announce plans to say ‘thank you’ to our incredible supporters for their loyalty through the last 18 months that COVID has impacted us”.
