Harlequins' Trenholm and Cowell named in GB Sevens squad

Monday, 22nd November 2021 @ 17:00

Harlequins duo Will Trenholm and Heather Cowell have been named in GB Seven's squad for the Dubai Sevens this weekend

Forward Trenholm receives his maiden call up to the GB Sevens programme after impressing during pre-season with Quins and a successful start to the season on loan at neighbours London Scottish.

GB Men’s Head Coach Tony Roques said: “Will Trenholm is an exciting young back row player in Harlequins’ academy. Quins have seen the opportunity to give him some exposure to sevens and feel it would be good for his development.

“He’s come in and earned his spot. He’s a big, powerful unit who could go really well in sevens. We’re really grateful to Quins for giving us the opportunity to work with him.”

Heather Cowell returns to the sevens programme after making her England XV’s debut a few weeks ago at The Stoop. The speedy winger has been in fine form for both Club and country, scoring eight tries in just seven appearances this season.

Women’s Head Coach Scott Forrest added: “There’s a nice consistency to the squad off the back of Canada which helps us in terms of building on the performances we had in Vancouver and Edmonton.

“This group of players have created a really open and honest culture; it’s been exciting to see that grow over the last month and it’s great to be able to take that to Dubai.

“It’s been an unbelievable experience since coming together at the start of the year. We’ve developed even more and are in a better place post-Tokyo. The players have left GB in a better place for when it returns.”
