Harlequins Women booked their place in the Allianz Premier 15s final with victory over Wasps at The Stoop
Both sides traded possession and territory in the early stages, looking to settle in to what looked to be a very close contest.
After driving into the Wasps' 22, Quins won a penalty dead in front of the sticks, allowing fly-half Ellie Green to slot three points and put the home side into the lead.
After taking the lead, Quins began to settle into the game and assert their dominance over the visitors. Having secured the ball from a lineout inside the 22, the trademark driving maul was set up to full affect, with Red Roses prop Vickii Cornborough driving over from short range. Green edged a tough conversion wide.
Keeping their foot on the gas, Quins continued to look the more threatening side as they tried to stretch their lead. The second try came through two pieces of individual brilliance, with the ball off the back of a lineout spread to England centre Lagi Tuima, who put her international colleague, winger Jess Breach, through a gap on half way, with Breach beating two defenders to go over. Green nailed the conversion to stretch the lead to 15.
Looking to press home their advantage ahead of the break, Quins almost had a third try with Breach being dragged into touch just short. After heading straight back into the 22 and winning a penalty, Quins opted for the posts with Green slotting three points to stretch the lead to 18 points at the break.
With work to do, the visitors came out firing after the break. After some near misses inside the 22, Wasps managed to get on the board through Abby Dow, who drove over from short range after camping out on the Quins' line.
Quins replied almost instantly, with Breach once again picking a gap in the Wasps' defence and dotting down under the sticks, allowing Green to slot the converstion and restall the 18 point lead.
As the clock ticked into the final 10, Wasps threw everything at the hosts, with it taking a superb double tackle from Breach, who was stretchered off shortly after, and Tuima to stop Dow going over in the corner.
Despite some fierce defence, Wasps managed to barge over from short range through Andrea Stock to set up a nervy final few minutes.
Wasps continued to give their all but Quins' defence held firm to see out the win and secure a spot in next week's final at Kingsholm.
